Admissions

Assessment

The Assessment step in the admissions process ensures that every learner is placed accurately and receives the supports they need to thrive. Assessments at iBLossomLearn Academy are mastery‑based, multilingual‑friendly, trauma‑informed, and aligned with the GlobalCore Framework. They are not used to exclude students — instead, they help us understand each learner’s academic background, language proficiency, and digital readiness so we can design an individualized learning plan.

Assessments are brief, supportive, and accessible for multilingual learners, newcomers, and refugee students.

Purpose of the Assessment

The assessment helps us:

  • Identify literacy and numeracy strengths
  • Understand English language proficiency
  • Determine newcomer support needs
  • Evaluate STEM readiness
  • Assess digital literacy and technology comfort
  • Inform individualized learning plans
  • Ensure accurate placement in Full‑Time, Part‑Time, Tutoring, or Micro‑School programs

This step ensures that students begin their learning journey with clarity, confidence, and appropriate supports.

What to expect

Assessment Components

1. Literacy Assessment

Students complete a short literacy diagnostic aligned with GlobalCore, which may include:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Vocabulary and word study
  • Writing sample
  • Oral language prompts (for multilingual learners)

This helps us understand literacy development across languages.

2. Mathematics Assessment

Students complete a math readiness check that includes:

  • Number sense
  • Problem‑solving
  • Mathematical reasoning
  • Grade‑level foundational skills

This ensures proper placement in math pathways and STEM courses.

3. English Language Proficiency Screening

For multilingual learners and newcomers, we conduct a supportive language screening that includes:

  • Listening and speaking tasks
  • Basic reading and writing prompts
  • Vocabulary and language structures
  • Home language profile review

This screening informs placement in newcomer pathways and multilingual literacy supports.

4. Digital Readiness Check

Students complete a brief digital literacy assessment to determine comfort with:

  • Basic device use
  • Navigation of virtual platforms
  • Typing and digital communication
  • Online safety and digital citizenship

This helps us plan onboarding and technology supports.

5. Social‑Emotional & Learning Profile

Students may complete a short, trauma‑informed learning profile that helps us understand:

  • Learning preferences
  • Strengths and interests
  • Areas where additional support may be helpful
  • Any considerations related to displacement or interrupted schooling

This ensures that placement is compassionate and developmentally appropriate.
